I have read in another thread, "Android Tablet like SB Touch (2)," about an ongoing attempt to use a tablet as a dedicated control/display for LMS-connected players.
I had been thinking about this myself in the past, because the material skin would be an excellent/awesome choice now for such a control point. The creator of that thread, waldo, brings up an excellent point in his thread however: the issue of running a screensaver, and having that enabled when the current player is not currently playing. Would it be possible and reasonable, to add such a feature to material? I am thinking of a player option that can be enabled by the user: if the current player stops playing then a few minutes later, the screensaver function activates by darkening the browser window, and simply shows date, time, and maybe the current player name - using a large font. Any action restores material back to the normal display. I can think of several use cases: 1. My television, I have appreciated using my TV as a display in the living room, showing what is playing on my HiFi using the browser/material in full-screen mode, but the lack of a screensaver makes this somewhat problematic when the music stops. 2. When traveling or driving my car, I have been using my phone this way, using material and SB Player connected to my home server using a VPN connection. Many hotels now provide a clock radio or other device that supports receiving Bluetooth streaming and I make use of that or headphones. A screensaver, a bit reminiscent of the default clock on the Touch would be perfect. I have been considering getting a cheap Android tablet just for this purpose.
