Just wanted to share an idea that I got from the excellent TimeSpeller plugin: -the VoiceClock-.
Why stop at displaying the time with text only when the SqueezeBox actually does audio best? Imagine your Transporter/SqueezeBox telling you the time with a sound or even a voice! My idea is controlling a set of audiofiles (mp3 or whatever): - Ticking sound every second (old grandad's clock) - "Gong" sounds telling every hour - Or a (human) voice telling the time etc. Naturally it should be configurable to ones desire; ticking sounds on|off, Gong sounds every hour|half hour|quarter etc. There could be numerous soundpacks made; first off a voice in different languages, then different ticking sounds (old grandpa clock, futuristic, small mechanical etc.) and different gong sounds (Church tolls, Big Ben, Cuckoo etc.) but most importantly exchangeable to whatever sound you'd prefer personally (say, Homer Simpson or whatever celebrity or funny voice telling the time, even yourself!) Apart from the sound there could also be text displayed (integration with TimeSpeller?) and why not graphics!? And for those hardcore time keepers there could be the option to interrupt the currently playing song aswell, just to make sure you don't miss the hour. FWIW the default Time & Date plugin, as well as the TimeSpeller are good input for start. Perhaps the Alarm Clock plugins aswell as it fires of an audiofile of choice at a given hour?! I assume some of these plugins check the actual time with a lookup to a ntp-server, as suggested in this 'thread' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31592&highlight=clock)? Wouldn't want lag. As I'm not even remotely a great coder I leave the idea for anyone to pick up. I believe this could be both a fun and useful plugin. Any feedback is appreciated, I'm sure there are lot's of open ends, flaws and room for conceptual improvement. (Now I just hope there isn't such a plugin already, that would put my searching ability to shame!)
