I recently fixed the database scanning code to work properly with unicode, but havent had a chance to look at the folder scanning code. It would be worth trying the mysql scanning method - the only thing you need to do to get it working is edit the my.tt file on the server, and you only need to do that if your server's on a seperate machine to Moose.
