I tried it again without OMLI but with pretty much the same results. I
never saw "Spotty Authentication" in step 4 ("Pick the 'Spotify
Authentication' item (music playback might go silence at this point)") I
entered my credentials and my selected LMS players showed up, but they
didn't work and get subsequently removed from the list when trying to
connect to these devices. I'd wager that means you really have to do
step 4 before advancing to step 5. Who knew.

To answer your question, yes, I think "Spotty Authentication" did not
work. I cannot really recall if I saw the "Spotty Authentication"
"device" the first time I set up Spotty. But since it worked that time,
it could have been there, maybe? Anyway, now it's not and it's not
working anymore. :(
