Ronnie- thanks very much for your help. It seems as thought the power supply was the major issue. I was using a 5v 0.75A supply which is plainly not adequate. Now I have a 5v 2a supply in, it seems to have solved the problem. That said I am not 100% sure I'm not gettign the odd low level pop, but this might be my imagination (or just the odd chair creaking/lectern knocking in the recording.
