Complicated is probably right. Apple is less than flexible about the app version installed, and I have no idea if version numbers line up between IOS and Android. I do know the problem exists with IOS 9.3.6 and that is definitely an older version of the app. The thread Michael linked has given me some ideas to follow up, but at best it'll zero in on the problem a bit more.
