...but I followed flipflips advice and threw 6.3.1. out and restarted with 6.5.1. Everything is working now. Was still not sure about what was the correct location for custom-convert.conf so I threw it both into /slimserver and /slimserver/Plugins/Alien.
It is strange these things sometimes things work and sometimes they are a mess. It is really great to have so many talanted and friendly people around.
