Which cycling are you referring to? Up/Down or Left/Right? The left/right items can be cycled via the remote or configured to cycle on their own. If either is cycling too fast, my guess would be that your universal remote is sending multiple button press signals when you hit a single button. Is this a universal remote that "learned" buttons from your SB remote, or did it come pre-configured with the JVC/SB IR codes? If it learned the codes, I'd try having it learn them again and be careful to have it only learn a single press.
