I have hardware to test with, unfortunately, the problems involving Tidal/Qobuz which seem to stem the most problems I don't have access to.
I should have an Allo in the office... could go there one of these days to pick it up.
As the OP says that 8.1 did work for him, could you imagine this was a transcoding issue? The fact that some LMS versions did work made me think so, too. But then there's those who claim that max2play did work with 8.0...
