Ah ok, thanks. That explains it. How long has this 'ID' requirement been around? I assume it's a change that Spotify has implemented (?)
It's not really a requirement. But I believe the still increasing number of Spotty users, plus the increased traffic due to the library integration feature has caused the total number of requests done against Spotify's backend servers to cross the threshold where they started to rate limit us. They would sometimes refuse to respond to requests with a status 429, as they believe we're causing too much traffic.
This is a totally reasonable approach you have to take to protect your infrastructure. But it's a pity they didn't get back to me with some conclusive response, as they've actually reached out to me asking about it.
Thus by using your own client ID you're not under the umbrella of mine, not sharing your requests with all the other Spotty users.
