That's what it looks like to me too, as when I go back to the Advanced Settings after a scan, the new genres are all still there, but the data base hasn't updated.
Ok, figured it out: if you didn't have any "basic" mapping set up, the advanced mapping would not have been triggered either. So either add a simple rule (can be invalid), or update to the latest 8.1.1 or 8.2 builds.
