Many thanks, but that was already done. At least, I think it was already done, but I don't know of any way to check the current status of settings made in raspi-config. (Yes, this is a headless system.) So I am almost certain I had already done that, but just to be sure, I set it to wait for network (again) and rebooted. The bridge still didn't find players until it was restarted. However, there was a change: this time, the concatenation errors did not appear in the server log.
