You currently have to define a combination of <playtype>sql</playtype>
and <playdata>Some SQL statement</playdata> to do this. I also think
removing the <itemtype>artist</itemtype> entry might work.
The behavior is the same in all the menus, so it is not specific to
this one. I'm currently looking if it would be possible to change the
default behavior so hitting play on a higher menu level always result
in all sub menu items being played, today when the menu level has an
<itemtype> element it just play that menu item. So hitting play on an
artist will always play all tracks on that artist even if you have
selected filtering attributes in the menu configuration.
The main reason for this strange behavior is performance, I had problem
if you hit play on a menu that contains many sub menu items.

You can change:
<menuname>Original Artist</menuname>
To:
<menuname>Cover Artist</menuname>
It currently can't be a dynamic name, it will be dynamic in the player
interface but the web interface currently only supports hardcoded
values. I'll add an entry on the wish list regarding this.
