If you're thinking of getting a DAB radio, be careful. There are
current trials with DAB+, a system using the AAC+ codec (rather than
MP2). This will be much better - this is a codec that is designed to
work at the 128ish bitrates that are common, whereas MP2 is designed
for ~256kbps, which it never gets. That's why DAB doesn't sound too
hot right now.

However, there is about zero chance that any current DAB radio will be
upgradable. It should be possible, as in many cases it would be a
firmware upgrade, but how to perform that upgrade? At best a dodgy
'phone unlock'-type shop, as it'll be out of warranty. Therefore any
new purchase is likely to have a short (2-3 year?) useful life.

Anyway the sound sucks. Get an FM tuner for critical listening and use
the SB3 internet stream for the rest. Easy :)
