This is my idea how it could work.
Lets say you hold play on Artist1, this would show the mixers "LastFM Similar Artists" and "Random songs by similar artists" and "Random". The user select "LastFM Similar Artists" and this shows the similar artists "Artist2", "Artist3","Artist4". If the user click play on one of these artist it will play all songs for the specified artist. If he instead hold play down on one of these artists it would again show the mixers "LastFM Similar Artists" and "Random songs by similar artists" and "Random". If he now selects "Random" it will play 20 random songs for the selected artist, if he select "Random songs by similar artists" it would play 20 random songs from artists similar to the selected one. But maybe "Random songs by similar artists" could be replaced with just hitting play directly when selecting the "LastFM Similar Artists". So if you choose to browse down into artists/albums it would work as "browse by selected" but if you hit play on the top level it would play 20 tracks (or maybe even better a dynamic playlist). Just configure a new header item of type "LastFM Similar Artists for artist" with object type="artistheader". I didn't include it as default since there are a lot of users that don't use the LastFM scanning in Custom Scan. However, this is one of the things that is really nice when I'm browsing my collection and trying to find something to play, so it might be a good idea to have it there as default. Those that don't want it can just hide it. This means that it will use the Similarity percent configured in the LastFM Custom Scan module. If you enter a value in "Minimum similarity percent" that is higher than the configured value in the LastFM scanning module, the artists needs to be considered more similar to show up. The idea is that the LastFM scanning takes a lot of time, and you might want to use different similarity percentage in different places. As an example you might want to use a higher value in the SQLPlayList that plays tracks directly than in the "Similar artist" mixer which let the user browse among the artists to play.
