Play it once with normalisation enabled and once without.
I must admit I can't hear any difference indeed.
What librespot version were you using when you tried that?
I see that there has been a normalisation related change/fix a few weeks
ago. Unfortunately there have been many other changes, too. I haven't
been able to just merge and compile. This would require some more work.
