If the AlienBBC plugin was installed as part of the Slimserver installation then there should be npothing wrong with it. Any problem with mplayer would only occur after you have seen menus.
LastFM has nothing to do with AlienBBC so it just proves the Slimserver can talk to another site. No menu problems are usually a network issue. Verify by enabling debug options d_source & d_plugins and open the debug window.
