There are some different things to consider if implementing this: 1. It needs to be disabled by default. Users that choose to enable it must be notified of the risks. 2. I think it probably should be done as a batch job that runs on user request and writes out all TrackStat information to all your music files. This means that you will know when it happens and you can make sure you have a backup before you do it. The problem if it would write continuously to the files is that you may not realise that you have corrupted files until a long time later. The risk with this is that it may be hard to restore the information from a backup since you will need to pick each music file from different backups since they probably has been destroyed at different times. Making it as a batch job will make it easier to perform the write and directly afterwards check that everything works as it should. bossanova808;217834 Wrote: > That said, I never really move my music anyway, so it's not a big deal, > my rating seems to survive ok. This way you know that you will always have a fresh backup of your TrackStat information and it will be stored somewhere so it isn't accidently removed by the SlimServer uninstallation. As long as you have a fresh TrackStat backup, there shouldn't be any risk of loosing any data. You will have the data in a text file and that text file will always be possible to manipulate so you can get back the information after the upgrade or directory/file renaming. -- erland Erland Isaksson 'My homepage' (http://erland.homeip.net) 'My download page' (http://erland.homeip.net/download) (Developer of 'TrackStat, SQLPlayList, DynamicPlayList, Custom Browse, Custom Scan, Custom Skip, Multi Library and RandomPlayList plugins' (http://wiki.erland.homeip.net/index.php/Category:SlimServer)) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35962 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
