Have you tried just adding the
-C 'command to squeezelite ?' (https://ralph-irving.github.io/squeezelite.html) I think Spotify drops the output when it is stopped. Maybe try this; play something using Squeezelite, stop the player, use Spotify-connect from a Phone or tablet, halt playback, select the phone or tablet as the spotify-Connect client but don't play any music.
