I think using a Jive remote would be a better starting point it is only
beta but a real product is likely..

Using Jive has the advantage that it is a separate Linux device with
all the necessary audio output. The motion detection of Jive also has
added advantage the user could just shake the Jive remote and it could
speak the "Now Playing" text.  Having a earphone socket means the
visually impaired user could browse the database without annoying any
other listeners.

Trying to modify Slimserver to generate speech and decide when should
music play and when voice  and whee should the mixing occur would seem
to be far more difficult than making Jive "talk".
