Personally, I quite like the FF/REW functionality (and many others do too), or at least I would if it worked properly. For the last year, it has been very buggy - often skipping to the end of the track when it shouldn't, or still skipping at 2x speed when it says it's in normal play mode. I'd like to see the bugs fixed, but implemented exactly as it is today. I like it as it's similar to most hifi CD players. I don't often skip through tracks; when I do, I want to hear as a scan through the track so I know when to resume playback. eg. when playing a long podcast and there's a song I don't like, I skip through to the end of that song. As an additional feature, I use the track scanner plugin, which is useful when you know what position you want to be at. eg. you are playing a long track, and want to play the last 10 mins. The two mechanisms are both useful. A new FF/REW feature could try to combne these into one. For example when holding down FF, show the track position like the track scanner plugin, but play music at the new position when scanning through. The rate of scan speed could increase 2x, 4x, 8x, like the existing functionality. Personally, I think it may be bad to combine the features into one, as the track scanner is nice for quickly setting the position for a long track, but bad for skipping a short distance through the track (eg. repeating the last 10 seconds), because the slider is linear. I think any new features would need to be configurable now, as a lot of the community may be happy with the existing functions.
