bpa hi.

first and then the 6.5 version ?

Actually, on reflection I recall fumbling about with various downloads,
so this is quite possible.

re-install the AlienBBC files and then restart Slimserver.

I did even better. I just nuked /usr/local/slimserver and all
subordinate directories, then downloaded the 6.5.4-1 rpm and the 1.06
alien.

I screwed up the rpm database by just nuking the directory, so fumbled
about a while, but discovered the --force switch for rpm (that is NOT
documented in the man page), which solved that problem.

Then did the RTFM to install Alien as directed. As predicted the
downloads failed after five minutes, but following your instructions:

1. Stop Slimserver
2. Backup the custom-convert.conf file in Plugins/Alien so you can
revert.
3. Edit the custom-convert.conf file and remove the "-bandwidth
100000000" from the 3 RTSP lines.
4. Restart Slimserver and test.

It worked perfectly. So all is copacetic.

The only other learning experience is that "Stop Slimserver" is not an
apparent process. Closing the browser (Firefox in my case) does not do
this. I chose to do

killall slimserver.pl

but I suspect there may be a more graceful way of doing this.

At any rate, all is solved, thank you very much for your assistance and
this wonderful package. I cannot recall any package easier to install
and employ in some five years of Linuxing. So you and your team should
feel very good about yourselves.

Now we just need to tell the rest of the world.

:-)

Sitting here in front of a fire with a pint of Fuller's ESB listening
to Choral Evensong from Birmingham Cathedral, now up to minute 53:00 of
play.

Happy Christmas, a delightful present, thank you.

Cheers, Andy
