I tried various combinations of disabling transcoding options to force
Softsqueeze to work, but didn't get anywhere.  I suspect as you say
there's a problem with the Softsqueeze device type in SC7.

I've noticed that SC7 is 'shipping' with Softsqueeze 3.4 which
instantly says it's out of date.  The current softsqueeze on
Sourceforge appears to be 3.5 - so I assume there's still some work to
be done here.
