When you switch to SqueezeCenter you can keep the hardware, but you'll need to replace the AMPSwitch plugin with the new PowerSwitchII plugin and select its AMP switch compatibility mode. BTW: The reason for the change is that the same circuit and plugin can be used for Squeezebox and Transporter and the circuit is available to buy at Conrad which makes it a bit easier to get.
