A few words to my switching circuitry: I use a opto-coupled triac (BRT13H) to switch a relay with 220V coil voltage. So, there is no need for an additional low voltage supply. The opto-coupler's LED is in series with a 560Ohm resistor. I prefer this setup over a solid state relay, since they often have unequal drop voltages for the different polarities, which is said to be problematic with strong torroid transformers (resulting DC magnetisation, because of the non-zero mean voltage)...
