As far as I am aware, the only difference between the two versions of mplayer.sh is that the newer one will find mplayer if MPlayer OS X is installed in the Applications folder while the old one will not.
So there's no reason to revert to the older mplayer.sh, so long as you either move (my suggestion) or rename (Triode's suggestion) MPlayer OS X.
