Try this: Take a look at the output of "mount" both before and after plugging in the drive. After plugging it in, there should be a new line at the end showing where the USB drive was mounted. Note what device name it has (probably /dev/sda1 or /dev/sdb1 or similar). Then, do "ls /srv/squeezecenter/music/usb/a1" (where a1 is the last 2 digits of the device name from "mount". If this works you should see the contents of your drive. It is now mounted as part of your music folder. > On the topic of untrained observations: Of course I have 2 internal > drives in the box as well and I've no idea how to go about figuring out > what each one is called now and how to get at it - I was trying to > figure out how to use the second drive as the media drive until I > looked into a different usb drive. The ISC installation uses all internal drives. Since the Linux and SC installs are pretty small, all remaining space is available for music. The output of "df" will show you the amount of used and available space. > I've got to get a good linux reference manual, this is driving me nuts - > anyone care to PM me a recommendation? Since ISC uses CentOS 5, the RH docs are quite good (http://www.centos.org/docs/5/). Frankly, if your goal is to use this as an exercise to learn Linux, you may not want to use Instant SC. You'll learn more if you install Linux from scratch yourself (Ubuntu and Fedora are the most popular here). You can then learn how to install SC, set up samba, etc. -- Fletch ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fletch's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=529 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45161 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
