I think the fault is WFMU's - they have used the ISO Latin-1 encoding
value for cent which is A2 instead of the UTF-8 encoding C2 A2. 

Alternatively WFMU could have used the HTML sequence ¢  

The fact that the cent character does not show up in Firefox and other
browser when viewing the XML page - confirms my view WFMU is wrong.  

However UTF8 encoding / HTML has confused me many times so I will not
enter any discussion.  I think you should e-mail the station and see if
you get a response.
