bpa - thanks for the response.  When I paste the weblink for the "kite"
test you refer to, it opens automatically in RealPlayer (and plays in
stereo just fine).  I can't save it to my computer.

I know I won't be able to execute the command successfully, though, as
when I type "mplayer" in the terminal it says "command not found".

I was going to re-install MPlayer using the sub-version link instead of
trying to use the package version - good idea?  Maybe it would get added
to my $PATH properly that way.
