Yeah, I agree -- SaverSwitcher has similar UI problems. I think it's
not so bad with AutoDisplay, as I think most of us use AutoDisplay to
change the settings when we expect to be asleep.

Well, AutoDisplay could subscribe to prefset commands (the latest
SettingsManager release subscribes to prefset and could serve as sample
code). I'm not sure what it should do if my normal/bright off setting is
"4", AutoDisplay dims to "0" each night, and it sees me change the
brightness from "0" to "2" in the dim period -- should 2 that become
the new "restore"/normal/bright setting (and start switching between
bright/"2" and dim/"0")? Or should the autodisplay "dim"/nighttime
setting change to "2" so that the display would switch between
bright/"4" and dim/"2"? (If the plugin had "dim" and "bright" settings,
it'd be much easier -- subscribeto prefset and change the appropriate
plugin pref depending on when the user changed the off brightness.)

I think the current behavior might actually be desirable to some -- it
allows you to use the remote control to brighten the display
temporarily (one night only), if you're unexpectedly up & burning the
midnight oil.
