I understand your frustration. It's relatively easy to set up, but when it doesn't work, it is nearly impossible to figure out what is going on. It's worth it though. I use the mixer all of the time. My problem was related to specifying the user ID for the daemon to start under.
You might want to post your issue to the MusicIP forums. There is a developer there (whicken) that is really helpful and knowledgable.
