I found the answer. Vudu needs to enable the "netremote" feature. At one point that was a user selectable feature, and then it could only be activated by Vudu. As of 9/9 they won't do it anymore unless you buy their $1,000 XL box which is only sold through professional installers. So the bottom line is that they want you to pay an installer $700 more for the same box with 750G more storage, just to get a feature they just disabled. They will go out of business soon with that model.
