Thanks Erland! I got it working pretty well. Here's what I did: I have given my compilations etc. an ALBUMARTIST tag using Mp3tag. Squeezecenter recognizes this tag, and the compilations are now browsable in the Artists menu under their ALBUMARTIST tag. However, the track artists of the compilations have dissappeared from the Artists menu. Here's where CustomBrowse came in: I've created a new menu called "All Artists" (Manage menus) -menu type "Artists" -roles to include: artist, album artist, track artist -various artists option disabled and put this menu in the Music Library node. This menu now shows all artists.
If I add albums with multiple artists but no ALBUMARTIST tag, then they appear under Various Artists in the Artists menu, provided the "group compilations" option in SC's Music Library tab is selected. This whole method has one cosmetic flaw namely the fact that squeezecenter sometimes uses the ALBUMARTIST tag where it says Artist. I have this compilation for example: David Holmes - Come Get It I Got It if I play song 5 the Now Playing screen displays: -5. Tom Cat (Muddy Waters)- which is correct. If I now press the right arrow on my remote the info screen says Artist: David Holmes where I would prefer it to say Muddy Waters.
