Sounds like everything is working as expected. If you read the instructions you'd know that with 'direct update' off, iTunes Update records its data into a file. You then need to run the iTunesUpdate.pl script on the machine where iTunes runs to apply the data.
But, if iTunes and SqueezeCentre are running on the same machine, just turn direct update on. Bear in mind for OSX itunes you also need to install further perl modules, regardless of the mode of operation. This is all explained in the ReadMe.txt file...
