One other thing I was thinking about (which won't make 7.3) is whether we should have a post install action which a plugin is able to include if it wants something done one on installation before it is started for real?
I am thinking about this for Alien on windows as I think it may be an idea to include something to install mplayer direct from the download site on install (for other plats people can install manuall).
