The rating information is stored differently in the SqueezeCenter database. It will probably be a bit faster when ratings are officially supported in standard SqueezeCenter (enhancement report #142 at bugs.slimdevices.com)
If you have some database knowledge it might be possible to optimize the database indexes for the rating queries.
