Just a warning that I tried removing Alien BBC (as I thought it was now redundant) but found that Live streaming broadcasts (which use WMA data) would not work . Clearly the Mplayer version for the Synology needs some or all of the Alien BBC installation to do the transcoding from WMA.
Reinstalled Alien BBC according to FlipFlip's FAQ on his SSODS pages and everything is fine again. On a general note; the low quality of most of the internet radio feeds is disappointing (generally at 96-128 kb/s MP3) - when played through my hi-fi. Lots of general phasey type distortion, poor stereo image and fuzzy muted treble, esp at 96 kb/s. OK for the play-it-again function (speech radio mainly), but I won't be scrapping my FM tuner quite yet. Radio's 2, 3 and 4 on FM via a good tuner with a roof aerial is light years ahead of Internet radio in terms of sounding "real". Radio 1 on the other hand sounds heavily compressed, even on FM, but is still way better than internet radio. There is clearly still some way to go with this technology which still seems to be set up for the lowest common denominator dial-up connection compatibility. -- TheLastMan Matt SB Duet, Synology Diskstation 107+ with FW 2.0-0600 SqueezeCenter 7.2 and SSODS 3 beta 15.
