One more observation is that browsing the menus in softsqueeze is very slow when I, by chance, get connected to one of the trouble causing wma stations. At first I thought this was caused by the software transcoding that starts but when I listen to the alienbbc stations I see no such slow down. In both cases the processor utilization on the SC linux machine is about the same (about 5% higher as a result of mplayer and flac running). Thus, the slowdown is probably occurring in softsqueeze which is running on a windows xp machine. I suppose it might be a networking issue. Browsing the softsqueeze menus is painfully slow when this happens.
