Softsqueeze was originally created by a user and SD took it over. Softsqueeze is too hard to get audio sync working and there are other reliability issues which would necessaitate a rewrite. So as a marketing tool it can do damage as well as good as users get frustrated. Squeezeplay is designed properly from the ground up (e.g. I think it can use ASIO) is a better solution for the future.
The new version of Softsqueeze work fine on my system - I get WMA audio every time. I need a log to see what is different on your system.
