As it stands, it sounds as though you're selecting "Shutdown Server" from the SrvrPowerCtrl menu. That action will, indeed, kill the SqueezeServer service. But without shutdown privileges having been granted to the "squeezecenter" user, that's all that happens....SqueezeCenter dies and that's it. It also sounds like the Synology OS may have a configuration feature such that, if it sees SqueezeCenter running, it refuses to hibernate. If you dig deep enough into the Synology configuration pages, you may discover how to turn that feature off. You are being a trailblazer here. I haven't heard of anyone else using SrvrPowerCtrl on NAS hardware. Epoch1970 may have a better sense of your issue than do I. I don't know anything about the Synology, its operating system, etc. Hopefully, someone else has played around with this sort of thing and they can chime in with some pointers. If you do get this figured out, please write up a report of the steps you needed to take to get things working. I'll happily include your comments in SrvrPowerCtrl's help file. >From a total of about 1 minute of googling, it looks as if Synology uses some flavor of linux as their operating system and it does appear that they support ssh connections. If you can login as root or otherwise gain root privileges over ssh, you *may* be able to configure the /etc/sudoers file so that SrvrPowerCtrl can really shutdown/suspend/hibernate the system. I don't know what application the NAS is using to implement hibernation, though. I'm afraid that you'll need to do some research and then some configuration work to get this all working as it's supposed to. If there are forums dedicated to Synology hardware, you might ask these questions there. Otherwise, you may get some answers asking here in the linux forum and in the 3rd party hardware forum. But where ever you conduct your research, you'll need to discover: 1). Does the OS have a "sudo" utility or its equivalent? This utility allows users with limited privileges to run programs that are otherwise off limits to them. If there is a "sudo" or like utility, how do you grant privileges to users so that they can execute a program without being prompted for a password? This last thing is the key to making SrvrPowerCtrl work with linux-like operating systems. This is usually accomplished via entries in the /etc/sudoers file. The exact syntax for these entries varies with different linux distributions. 2). What application does the synology OS use to shutdown or restart the system: is it /sbin/shutdown ? Is it something else? In either case, you need to then figure out how to grant the "squeezecenter" user privileges under the operating system to execute this application. 3). What application does the system use for hibernation? I'm guessing that it won't be /usr/sbin/pm-hibernate, but I don't know. But again, you'll need to figure out how to grant the "squeezecenter" user privileges to execute this application. I'm sorry I can't offer you anything more than this very generic help. Again, if you do have any success in getting things configured and working, please report back to us. -- gharris999 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ gharris999's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=115 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521
