Hello everyone, I've spent a bit of time recently trying to get any flavour of software squeezecenter player to run on the PS3, so far without any luck.
Has anyone actually managed this? It seems to me to be a useful thing to do - the ps3 is hooked up to the stereo anyway, and is networked. Should be perfect. So far, I've installed XUbuntu 8.1, and tried the following: 1) I've attempted to run Softsqueeze. There's no Sun Java runtime for PPC, so I've: - Installed the Kaffe Java environment. I can start Softqueeze on Kaffe, but get an error because of the non-existent libawt.so for Kaffe. If I try to run headless, I avoid this error, but I have no idea how to configure the sound device, as I can't get a listing of the devices so that I can see the PS3's sound device name. Next step? Maybe play around with the Softsqueeze source to get a headless device listing? - Tried to install the IBM JVM. Don't seem to be able to get around the absent libstdc++ v5 shared object, so unable to run the JVM. Next step? No idea. 2) I've made a short attempt at building Squeezeslave, with no luck so far. Lots of errors, all looks a bit beyond my abilities. Next step? Might have another go with help from thread id 63457 (sorry, not allowed to link in my first post) 3) I haven't tried Squeezeplay yet (in fact, I only realised that it existed today). I'll have a try over the next couple of days. 4) I've tried Softsqueeze as an applet through the PS3's game OS browser, but it seems that the PS3's "powered by Java" doesn't extend as far as its web browser. 5) I've had a look at the BD-J Java hack. It may be possible to modify Softsqueeze to run in this environment, but I don't think that it will be straightforward. Any advice that anyone can provide would be much appreciated. BTW, I am in no way wedded to XUbuntu, or any other OS. All I want is to get some sort of squeeze player running.
