The lirc_client.h header file is probably not included in the package
you installed. It's in lirc-utils on my Arch Linux distro. Also, you
shouldn't need a reboot.

The makefiles have changed in the current version. Once we get 0.8-25
to build I'll include an updated makefile for your configuration in the
repository.
