Ok, I listened patiently to Radio 4 until the problem recurred, then called A&A tech support. After establishing that we were talking about a problem with streaming radio, not video, the guy put me on hold for a while to look at what was going on.
He went on to say that he has made a change so that there is now no traffic shaping going on (and implying - but not explicitly stating - that there had been traffic shaping). I was told that some value (didn't catch which one, I'm afraid) had now been turned up 'to 110%'. So, we'll see.
