Sounds like you have huge artwork embedded in that file? Could you (for a test) copy one of the files, remove embedded artwork, and try again? You might want to file a bug on http://bugs.slimdevices.com - this isn't a SlimNAS issue, but most likely a limitation in the scanner code. A small sample file showing this behaviour would greatly help us reproduce the problem.
