IIRC there are no RealAudio streams for Radio Scotland anymore and so BBCiPLayer plugin does not use mplayer.
You best bet would be to use get_iPlayer - see http://linuxcentre.net/getiplayer but you will also need flvstreamer (mplayer equivalent for Flash/AAC) .
