It took some doing, but AndyG has finally disclosed why Zeroconf/bonjour
was gone from SBS 7.4 (too big/awkward for Touch), and that the feature
can move to a plugin.

Good. On CPAN there is Net::RendezVous which can do publishing. There
is a connector with Avahi-daemon and mdns, theoretically the plugin
could register dynamically the service on OS X and on Linux.
Slimdevices has registered 2 services (
http://dns-sd.org/ServiceTypes.html ) -- I wonder if there wasn't a 3rd
one published.

Bringing back the functionality to OS X users and porting it to linux
doesn't seem too difficult, from here.

However, I personally still lack the understanding of how a plugin
works. (Before someone asks: to me, the obsolete wiki pages are no help
at all.)

Does a plugin savvy contributor want to step up ?
