After years of having a home/web server running Linux, a hacked Tivo, and other web appliances... I think I'm Linux-less at the moment. Strange feeling.
I think the price difference is cheap enough, where I'd just pick up the RS2 at this point. RS1's are like $15 on eBay, though, so it's very tempting to roll the dice and see if you get a newer version. Sounds like the RS1 + 7.4 is a combination asking for headache if you can avoid it... I really want it for those - admittedly rare - times when my ISP is out, or the public radio station isn't streaming for whatever reason.
