It did indeed turn out that searches don't get canceled on the serevr side if you cancel the request. It DOES help not to include spaces in the search, btw, although that obviously isn't always possible, but for a slow server/large library environment it could indeed make sense to not use incremental search.

And you will have to configure your server manually since obviously server detection won't work over the whole internet.
