I had this problem too. There is a thread referenced above which has
the solution (you have to go near the end of the thread, however, to
find it). As noted, the string in the install.xml file is wrong, so
when 5.8.9 gets installed, the version string still says 5.8.8, so when
checked against the newest version available of 5.8.9 it determines
there's a new version available! You can edit this file yourself after
installing v5.8.9. Here's the instructions posted in the other thread:

What happens is, because the install.xml file for v5.8.9 of the plugin
was not updated to reflect the new version number, it installs v5.8.9
but does not recognize that it has done so because the install.xml file
specifies the version to be v5.8.8.

If you go into the plugin cache dir (i.e.
C:\ProgramData\Squeezebox\Cache\InstalledPlugins\P lugins\SuperDateTime)
and look in the 'lib' directory, you'll probably see some hint that you
have v5.8.9 by checking the timestamp of the file(s) in there.

If so, to get rid of the problem, you can edit install.xml in the
plugin cache dir (above)..just change 5.8.8 to 5.8.9 and the "updated
plugins available" message will go away, and the correct version will
show for the plugin.

You will have to restart Squeezeserver or whatever it's called this
month for it to take effect.
