Ok, understood. For me, that is not a problem because my homemade SB rig will have its SPDIF output feeding directly into a Video Storm 16x16 SPDIF Audio Matrix Switcher (http://www.video-storm.com/proddetail.asp?prod=CMX1616V) and this will allow me to send the audio to every room in my house. Every room in the house has a dedicated Onkyo receiver.
In my previous question, I did not tell this because I wanted the scenario/question to be clear. Are there any other disadvantages to just running everything on a "single always on home built PC"?? I will be controlling the SB PC with Crestron control system, and be using my own handheld remotes (TPMC3X).
